NOAA GFS-Wave Global Wave Direction

GFS-Wave is a new configuration of the WAVEWATCH III regional wave model, coupled to the Global Forecast System (GFSv16), as part of the Unified Forecast System. The upgrade to GFS-Wave includes the use of the finite volume global model version3 (FV3) as the atmospheric component of the Global Ensemble Forecast System (GEFS), coupling the GEFS atmospheric component to the NCEP Global Wave model, increase in horizontal resolution to ~25 km, and increase in forecast length increased from 10 to 16 days. The EMC WAVEWATCH III® global wave model Multi-1 was decommissioned in NCEP operations on March 22, 2021.
