This mission is funded by Shell Exploration & Production Company. The glider was deployed off of the coast of Freeport, Texas just off the shelf break and will operate in the northwestern Gulf of Mexico for the duration of the planned mission. The near-real time in situ temperature and salinity water column data collected as a result of this project is intended to be utilized for data assimilation to improve the accuracy of hurricane models.
